Mammoth tusk cannot be processed at high speeds. Manual processing is ideal for it. It cuts, grinds and polishes perfectly. But a simple handle would be too boring, so I decided to decorate it with inlay. On one side there will be a karakurt spider (black widow), and on the other - a butterfly sitting on a flower branch. In this work, in addition to mammoth tusk, I also used buffalo horn, pink mother-of-pearl, silver, bronze, natural red coral, wood and coconut shell. I applied blackening (patina) to the bronze. Buffalo horn is easy to cut and, like the tusk, is polished to a mirror finish. Inlaying each detail took a lot of time. It took 3 days from early morning until late at night for just one spider, but the spider turned out just like a living one. I mainly used a drill for preliminary carving and polishing, and for rough work with the material I used a band saw, a homemade grinder and a screwdriver. I'm on Yandex.
