根據警方資料，於2014年共發生394宗縱火案件。當中部分案件涉及年青人。有社工指，年青人因為貪玩、受朋輩慫恿，從而希望在同儕中表現自己勇武等心態而去「玩火」。可是，他們往往忽略了「縱火」嚴重後果。 根據《刑事罪行條例》，用火摧毀或損壞財產之罪行者，須被控以縱火罪。而任何人干犯縱火的罪行，一經循公訴程序定罪，可處終身監禁。
