He re-emerged 3 months later only to be axed once again. Other hawkers in the CBD have to make critical decisions, and one impacts a career that spanned more than half a century. Others are luckier. Mr Tay finds an able apprentice to learn the art of frying carrot cake and a fried savoury sweet broad rice noodle dish called Char Kway Teow. The Burger guys find inspiration in a Singapore dish that's made only of soup bones. One of the hawkers celebrates a life milestone – getting married.
