In this video, we will travel to the era when the modern image of long-distance travel was born. In the era when several European countries and companies joined forces to create an aircraft capable of competing with world leaders. Then, in the 1960s, a risky idea was being realized: a twin-engine wide-body aircraft - nothing like this had ever existed before and nothing like this had even been tried. The A300 seemed like a gamble to many - a desperate attempt to create something capable of competing with the giants: Boeing, Douglas and Lockheed. And the new Airbus consortium creating it was so complex and contradictory that in the first years of its existence it seemed like a house of cards capable of collapsing at any moment. But fate made its choice - in October 1972, a real aviation revolution took place at the airport in Toulouse, France. Having made its maiden flight that day, the A300 became a bestseller, and the concept of a large twin-engine airliner turned from a gamble into a standard. All modern serial wide-body airliners are ideological successors of the A300. And the Airbus consortium itself, by 2025, became the world leader in aircraft manufacturing - a giant with a large-scale infrastructure in many countries and hundreds of aircraft produced every year. We will get acquainted with the history of its creation, twists and turns of fate, design and modifications – from the A300B1 that never reached the series, through the popular versions A300B2 and A300B4, to the final birds – A300-600R, more than a hundred of which are still flying.
