Video Description

This week on the homestead we rendered down our years supply of cooking oil! We tackled some more firewood, worked on the barn for the new additions, and made up some herbal preparations to help with a cold. We show you how we use spruce pitch as a steam and an infused oil for a chest rub, as well as how we make a loose leaf tea infusion. HOMESTEAD RECIPES Immune Support Tea (per cup) -1 tsp echinacea -1 tsp elderflowers -bit of ginger root -handful of rose hips Mix all herbs together in a mason jar, cover with boiling water, cap. Steep 20 min. Strain, sweeten with raw honey. Chicken Soup -1 chicken carcass -carrots, celery, herbs (use what you have, or none, if you don't), onion, garlic, ginger Cover chicken with water, add veggies and herbs, cover and simmer 2-24 hrs., or more. Strain. Add back in chicken meat, freshly chopped veggies of your choice. Boil until cooked, serve!
