I picked up a vintage pair of tan Cheaney Derby shoes on eBay thinking they’d be a simple clean-and-polish. When they arrived… yikes. Water marks, fading, dry/cracked leather—the uppers were beyond a standard restoration. So I pivoted: stripped the finish, corrected the worst damage, and re-dyed them a deeper chocolate/mahogany to hide the scars and bring the leather back to life. In this video I show the effective steps (not every experiment), including controlled sanding, using Renomat to open the pores, layered dye, cream polish to even out tone, and a neutral wax for the final gloss.
