First introduced in 2015, it blended a five-cylinder turbocharged engine with Quattro all-wheel drive in a compact Sportback or Saloon body. Its reputation was built on stunning real-world speed, everyday usability, and premium build quality. The RS3 8V came in three main versions: the Pre-Facelift (2015–2016), the Facelift (2017–2018), and the DNWA (2019–2020). The original 8V.1 model produced 362bhp from a cast-iron CEPA-based 2.5-litre engine. It used a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox and Haldex-based Quattro system. While it delivered sharp straight-line pace, some drivers noted understeer at the limit. In 2017, the facelifted 8V.2 arrived with a new aluminium-block engine (code DAZA), producing 394bhp. This lighter engine improved handling balance and came with wider front track, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit, sharper styling and, for the first time, a Saloon variant. In 2019, the final update introduced the DNWA engine. Designed to meet WLTP emissions regulations, it added particulate filters which slightly muted the engine note, though performance remained unchanged. At launch, the RS3 8V was available as a Sportback or Saloon, with the Saloon costing £950 more. Both versions offered similar driving experiences, so choice came down to styling or boot practicality. Factory options played a key role in shaping each RS3. Brakes on the 8V.2 featured steel discs and black eight-piston calipers as standard. Red calipers were £325, and DAZA-powered cars could be optioned with carbon ceramics for £4,695. Nardo Grey was the standard paint, with Glacier White, Mythos Black and Catalunya Red available for £550. Panther Black Crystal and Ara Blue Crystal were £775, and custom Audi Exclusive colours cost £2,400, often with extended lead times. The RS Sports Exhaust, priced at £1,000, was a highly desirable option, delivering a deeper, more engaging engine note with black tailpipes and increased flow. Carbon-fibre engine covers were also offered for £1,000, often retrofitted post-purchase. LED headlights were standard, with High Beam Assist (£150) and Matrix LED units (£895) available. Privacy glass at the rear was a popular £375 option. Styling packs included Gloss Black or Matt Aluminium for £795 each. The Panoramic Glass Roof, at £1,075, added cabin light but also increased weight, impacting handling slightly. Wheels were staggered for the first time on the 8V.2, with wider fronts for improved grip. Options included Titanium finish (£795) or Anthracite diamond-cut designs (£895). Mirror caps could be changed to gloss black for £90, or carbon fibre (as accessories) for £500. Folding and heated mirrors were £275, with auto-dimming adding £100. The upgraded tyre pressure monitoring system (£250) displayed live pressure and temperature data. Magnetic Ride Control, or ‘Mag Ride’, was a £1,000 upgrade offering adaptive suspension with driver-selectable modes. Better value came from the £1,700 Audi Sport Pack, which bundled Mag Ride, RS Sports Exhaust and the advanced tyre pressure system—saving £550 over selecting each option individually. For those seeking higher top speeds, a limiter removal was offered for £1,600, increasing maximum speed to 174mph—most relevant for Autobahn use. Interior-wise, standard seats came in black leather, but many buyers upgraded to Super Sports Seats (£795) with diamond stitching and better support. Optional lumbar support was £250, with fully electric adjustment at £850. Interior trim could be upgraded from the standard 3D carbon-effect to the Aluminium Design Pack (£295) or genuine carbon-fibre inlays (£850). Stitching options included Rock Grey or Crescendo Red, and a cream Lunar Silver leather was also available. The Extended Leather Pack (£275) and RS Design Pack (£895) added features like Alcantara knee pads, red air vent rings, RS floor mats and red pinstripe seatbelts. The Driver Assistance Package (£1,250) added adaptive cruise control, lane assist, blind spot warning, emergency assist, traffic sign recognition and high beam assist. This package was identifiable by the front grille radar unit.
