On May 20th, 2023, officers from the Payson Police Department pulled over a vehicle after it had done 70-mph in a 55-mph zone. What started out as a speeding violation, would soon turn into a DUI check, after a can of beer had been spotted in the cup holder. Over the next several minutes the driver of the vehicle, 45-year-old, James Gardiner, co-operated with the field sobriety tests, but then all over a sudden, he collapsed & would eventually go on to die. As police would soon discover, James had not only smoked meth throughout the day but also ingested some while being stopped which resulted in his death.
