What followed was a fierce campaign of island-hopping by the US military, driving the fierce Japanese forces back towards their homeland. In this interview Mr Nelson recounts in great detail what it was really like to fight on the front lines in World War II, recalling stories of friends, of great comradeship in the most extreme circumstances, and of the brutal, horrific realities of the war in the Pacific.
