Description

Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre and multiple Liberal MPs engaged in a heated debate in the House of Commons Monday when Poilievre accused Prime Minister Mark Carney of being “the Grinch of the grocery store” following the release of the 2026 Food Price Report – which predicts Canadians will spend up to $1,000 more on groceries next year. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne went on to tout the federal government’s budget, urging Conservatives to vote in favour of it as a “Christmas gift” to struggling Canadians. In response, Poilievre said motion on new pipelines would help combat the nation’s cost-of-living crisis, before demanding Carney “take a position” and vote in favour of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) he recently signed with Alberta – a document which proposes a bitumen pipeline from Alberta to the Pacific Coast. “Will, in the spirit of Christmas, Liberals… approve a pipeline, and get rid of the tanker ban?” the opposition leader asked.
