How to crash your Campervan in the Arctic winter and get rescued. Accidents happen in Vanlife. Ice and wet roads caused my self-built campervan to slip off the road and crash into a snowy ditch. I love the Nordic winter ( Norway, Finland & Sweden ) and over the last 4 winters I’ve pulled a few from ditches and seen countless more in them, but I finally had the full experience myself and ended up in one. This winter has been warm and because of that, there’s been a lot more ice around than usual normally compact snowy roads at this time of year. Takeaways from this experience, it’s good to make sure you have European breakdown cover which paid for the truck. It’s also good to be flexible. whilst I’ve always used my BFGoodrich K02 tires which have been fantastic on the last three cold winters.
