Crocodile Hunting in Deep Rivers, Confronting Nature’s Power

Africa’s rivers look calm on the surface, but under that muddy water lives one of the oldest predators on earth, the crocodile. In this film we travel to the Kwando River in Namibia to hunt a crocodile with my father, using a community own use tag that supports local people and helps manage dangerous encounters with these animals. From building the blind and setting bait on a remote sandbank, to waiting for hours with the constant tension of deep water full of crocs, this hunt is all about patience, precision and respect. We lose our first bait to a big crocodile, I miss a tough shot that really hurts, and then finally get a second chance on another crocodile on land where every bullet and every second counts. Along the way we talk about crocodile conservation, CITES quotas, community benefits and why these hunts are a critical part of keeping both people and wildlife safe along Africa’s big rivers. The hunt ends with our first crocodile ever for the Ampuero family, shared with my father, as elephants, buffalo and hippos move around us at sunset on the Kwando.
