Damascus Cleaver With Mammoth Ivory and Brass Handle - Restoration

In this video, I restore a heavily damaged Damascus cleaver and bring it back to life – featuring a custom handle made from genuine mammoth ivory and brass details! 💪 This project was completed around the time of Eid al-Adha and Guru Purnima — perfect occasions to celebrate craftsmanship and heritage restorations. 🔥 What to Expect? ✔️ Handle Removal – The old wooden handle was cracked and beyond saving, so it had to go. ✔️ Red Bull Rust Removal – I soaked the heavily rusted blade in energy drink — yes, it works wonders on rust! ✔️ Grinding & Reshaping – Using a belt grinder, I cleaned and leveled the blade surface while keeping the steel cool. ✔️ Fine Sanding – The blade was sanded by machine and hand up to 1200 grit for a smooth finish. ✔️ Custom Brass Bolsters – I cut and polished two brass pieces for the front end of the new handle. ✔️ Mammoth Ivory Handle – The highlight of this restoration: a handle made from rare, fossilized mammoth ivory. ✔️ Custom Brass Pins – Four new brass pins turned on the lathe. As a special detail, one big pin features a tiny mammoth engraved inside! ✔️ Damascus Pattern Etching – The blade was etched in ferric chloride to reveal the beautiful damascus pattern again. ✔️ Assembly & Finishing – All parts were glued together with 2K epoxy. Final sanding, polishing, and detailing completed this one-of-a-kind restoration.
