One of the most opulent ships of the period, the P&O liner RMS Medina was used as a Royal Yacht to transport King George V, and his family, to India where he was proclamed as Emperor in 1911. It was torpedoed in April 1917 whilst returning from Australia. Believed to be carrying significant quantities of valuables, it was professionally salvaged in the 1980s and the items recovered sold by Sothebys. The Medina is a massive ship wreck; it's nearly 180 metres long, 20 metres wide and stands well over 10 metres off the seabed.
