This is a 16th century Italian song from the Manuscript of Frottole, BN Parigi, Rés Vm7 676, originating either in Mantua or Ferrara, containing diverse songs, this one being attributed to an anonymous composer. I took a polyphonic approach to the song by taking the lead melody, and deriving a basso ostinato and supplementary vertical lines that harmonise with the lead melody using the tonal principles of harmony at the time. The instruments used are lutes, theorbos, mandores, a cornetto, drums and rattles, as well as a flute.
