En janvier 2025, à la demande du groupe Union Centriste, le Sénat a lancé une commission d'enquête visant à évaluer les outils de la lutte contre la délinquance financière, la criminalité organisée et le contournement des sanctions internationales, en France et en Europe. Après avoir auditionné les directeurs généraux de la police et de la gendarmerie nationales, ainsi que le préfet de police de Paris, les sénateurs ont entendu des journalistes d'investigation. Fabrice Arfi, co-responsable des enquêtes à Mediapart, est à l'origine de nombreuses enquêtes, notamment sur les affaires Woerth-Bettencourt, Karachi, Kadhafi-Sarkozy, les quotas carbones, ou encore l'affaire Cahuzac.
