Mike is not just a farmer, Mike is every farmer Like many other farmers all over Britain, Mike has had to "diversify" to make ends meet because supermarket prices are kept artificially low, which puts a huge pressure on farmers to keep afloat. Like so many farmers around Britain, Mike needs to bring in funds from outside of his livestock, and farming. Mike gives up some of his farm space to local people, in exchange for funding which helps keep his farm going. Ironically this is something that has been encouraged by governments for many years. Mike allows local people to use his sheds, and that has caught the attention of the local planing enforcement department at South Gloucester Council Enforcement officers acting for South Gloucester Council are now accusing Mike of being a "criminal" for helping local people, and allowing them to use his barns. Because Mike is accepting funding from locals who use the farm, Mike is now being prosecuted under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. The theory being that because Mike does not have planning permission to allow others to use his sheds, he is now acting "criminally" and the funds are therefore "the proceeds of crime" .
