Description
A Frida Kahlo painting has become the most expensive painting by a female artist sold at auction. “The Dream (The Bed)” set a $54.7 million record in a sale at Sotheby’s on Thursday night. With this sale, Kahlo surpassed the record held by Georgia O’Keeffe’s “Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1,” which sold to Walmart billionaire Alice Walton for $44.4 million in 2014. “The Dream (The Bed)” shows Kahlo, who lived from 1907 to 1954, floating against a blue sky, asleep in her canopy bed as vines curl toward her and an oversize skeleton lays overhead, its bones strapped with explosives and dried flowers. #Art #Sothebys #WSJ
