FSCJ 60th Anniversary History Feature: 1995-1999 (2026)

Video Description

This video, one of a series of history featurettes created in honor of FSCJ's 60th anniversary, focuses on the college from 1995-1999. Starting with the launch of a new College logo in 1995, it covers the rollout of a new student ID card, the induction of babecall coach Howard Roey into the National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame, and a new partnership between the College and Mayo on an Associate of Science in Radiography. For 1996, it highlights the College’s first online course offering (and introduction to sociology taught by Bill NesSmith), the dedication of the North Campus Athletic Field House, the opening of the Nassau Center, and the completion of the Wilson Center for the Arts and its first art and theater shows. For 1997, it covers College-alumna Sherry Hogan making an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show and the first Tubafest. For 1998, it highlights the renaming of the Grande Boulevard Center to Deerwood Center, the rollout of the ORION software system, and the “First Team” mural painted by Anne Banas’s students on the west wall of the Ed Ball building. For 1999, it discusses CISCO Systems selecting the College as a training center, the dance program’s first spring concert, the dedication of the new Criminal Justice Training Center at North Campus. The video closes with the launch of yet another College logo, this one formed by three waves representing credit courses, vocation/technical courses, and community service.
