I stopped into my local GameStop last month and felt something I didn’t expect — sadness. As a former GameStop employee (and someone who also worked at Kay-Bee Toys, Blockbuster, and later an Apple Store), the clutter, clearance racks, and lack of actual games felt eerily familiar. I’ve seen what happens when physical retail spaces miss a pivot. But when I went back recently… I felt a small flicker of new hope. In this video, I reflect on GameStop at a crossroads, the decline of physical game stores, and whether gaming retail can evolve in the era of digital game downloads, disc-less consoles, and online marketplaces.
