Grief Comes in Waves

We are often inundated with grief’s aftermath and find that one’s grief tends to tap into previous losses. Learning ways to find resources to navigate multiple griefs is complicated and possible. My own losses include my wife of 34 years, followed by her dad, my sister-in-law, and my mother within a year and a half. Since then I’ve encountered the deaths of my dad and mother-in-law. It’s been through spiritual resources, grief counseling and groups, and lots of personal rituals that my life, though radically altered, continues to be meaningful. Come join our conversation! Virgil Fry is the Director of the Interfaith Spiritual Care Coalition, an outreach of the Institute for Spirituality and Health in Houston. Formerly Executive Director of Lifeline Chaplaincy at the Texas Medical Center, he now trains spiritual care volunteers for placement within underserved nursing homes, assisted living, and personal care home facilities. The father of two adult children and five grandchildren, he enjoys family time, travel, and racquetball.
