Tensions hit boiling point at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry when Warrant Officer Sabelo Nkosi gave an unfiltered account of what happened during the arrest of Katiso “KT” Molefe. Nkosi told the inquiry that on the day of the operation, Brigadier Lesiba Mokoena ordered him to drop a dangerous North West mission and rush to Molefe’s mansion in Sandhurst to check reports of fake Hawks officers. He said the instruction made no sense — describing it as reckless and unnecessary. Nkosi recalled how Mokoena kept calling him every few minutes while he was stuck in heavy traffic, telling him to “push” through using his sirens. When Nkosi finally arrived, he realised the operation at Molefe’s house was legitimate and that they had been sent there under false pretences.
