#blacksmith #blacksmithing #spear In this video, I make a dory (greek spear), with a forged steel head and a cast bronze butt spike. Casting bronze is not in my skillset, so I called in my friend, Patrick Kenny to help out. Patrick created a 2 piece of reusable mould from soapstone, into which, he was able to form the molten bronze. His bronze alloy consists of scrap copper and tin with a ratio of about 90% copper to 10% tin. I then forged the spearhead from 5160 spring steel, forge welding it to a mild steel socket. After grinding and heat-treating both pieces were fastened to a hickory shaft creating a spear about 8 ft long.
