About

Welcome, friend! Ryan and I have been homesteading since 2013, but we're starting our NEW homestead from scratch in the north woods of Minnesota. We're currently living in a 960 sq foot hunting cabin and are doing our best to live off our land - gardening, raising chickens, hunting, and foraging. Come along for the journey and learn some self-sufficiency tips along the way!

Anyone else having trouble fully committing to organ meats? 🙋🏻‍♀️   Liver was one of those things that I KNEW we should be eating (it’s loaded with nutrients!), but I just had trouble getting over the ick factor🥴.   I didn’t grow up eating organ meats, so this step in my whole foods journey has been slow... until now!   Then, I got to realizing... I don’t have to eat organ meats straight up! It’s easy to hide them once they are blended into a powder. BINGO!   So, I fired up my freeze drier (using the dry temp at 145F) and before long, I had liver powder!🙌🏼   Now, I can mix it into ground beef and hide it in things like pasta, tacos, and burgers. It can also be blended with seasonings to make a seasoning powder blend. Some people even add it to smoothies or put it in capsules!   Don’t have a freeze dryer yet? They are up to $800 off right now (and I have a code you can use for an additional $100 off)! Comment “freeze me” and I’ll send you more info about it! 💫   If not, you can dehydrate the livers, too! While the texture is a bit more dense, it won’t last as long, and you lose more nutrients with dehydrating vs freeze drying, it’s still a great option if that’s the tool you have on hand.   Are you a liver lover? If not, would you eat it this way?   **I recommend sourcing your liver from organic, grass-finished organs and from a local farmer you trust.
