Hi, I’m Brooke Giannetti, and here at our homestead, one of the most common questions we get is: What animal should I start with? My answer is always the same—chickens! They’re fun, quiet (if you skip the rooster), bug-eating, egg-laying wonders. So in this video, we’re taking you on a full tour of our chicken coop setup and sharing all our tips for raising happy, healthy hens. We’ll show you our custom-built mobile coop inspired by English shepherd’s huts, talk through nesting box tips (and what to do when hens go broody), share how we handle natural bedding and parasite control with diatomaceous earth, and explain what we feed our chickens (no grains or soy). You’ll also see how we provide proper roosting spots and ventilation, how we raise and integrate chicks into the flock, and how we store eggs.
