I Crossed Patagonia from Glacier to Sea by Packraft

For ten days and over 200 kilometers, @XanderBudnick and I pushed deep into one of the most remote, undocumented regions of Patagonia. Battling relentless headwinds on the Rio Baker, navigating class 3+ rapids (where I flipped twice, and Xander once), and portaging around class 5 whitewater, this journey demanded everything we had. The terrain was unforgiving. We covered 40+ kilometers on foot over four days, crossing rivers more than a dozen times—each requiring us to painstakingly unpack, inflate, cross, and repack our rafts. Equipment failures added to the challenge: my raft and sleep pad punctured, while Xander crashed his drone and lost his Garmin InReach. At one point, my packraft floated into the middle of a lake, an agonizing moment that nearly turned into disaster. But the expedition’s greatest reward was reaching an extremely isolated lake and paddling right up to the face of a glacier—a sight few will ever witness, one we wanted to see before it disappears.
