Iran demanded the lifting of sanctions, while the US insisted on reducing uranium enrichment. Second round (19 April 2025, Rome, Italy): Talks took place in Rome, again mediated by Oman. It was indirect, but Witkoff and Araghchi spoke face-to-face for some time. The Iranian Foreign Ministry described it as "meaningful" and "constructive". Both sides agreed to a third round. Iran sought guarantees of lifting sanctions, while the US demanded a halt to nuclear weapons development.
