We’ve got our hands on the Arctic Trucks Toyota Hilux AT37, and it’s going up against a super rare, one-of-one Hilux… It’s the Top Gear Polar Special Hilux - the same one that the original Top Gear team drove to the North Pole! The two are going head-to-head over a series of challenges on an off-road course to see which of the two is the best off-road! But how will they compare? Let’s take a closer look at the stats. The AT37 is based on the current-generation Hilux, so it comes with a 2.8-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine that produces 204hp and 500Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 6-speed auto, and it weighs 2,200kg. It comes with several modifications, including 37” all-terrain tyres, upgraded front & rear differentials, as well as an adjustable performance suspension system. All in, the car and the upgrades cost £78,000. Then we come to the Top Gear special edition Hilux. It’s based on the 2006 generation and is powered by a 3-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that produces 171hp and 360Nm. It has 4WD, ultra-low gearing, and 38” snow tyres. It also comes with pneumatic locking differentials and a couple of additional unique mods! The question is, will the newer Hilux propel itself to victory? Or could the older Hilux snatch the win?
