Israel Launches Major Bombardment on Gaza City

Israel Katz, Israel’s defence minister, threatened Hamas with a “powerful hurricane” in the skies of Gaza City. “The roofs of the towers of terror will shake,” Katz, who has been tweeting videos of Gaza City’s high rises collapsing, wrote on X. “This is the last warning to the murderers and rapists of Hamas in Gaza, and in luxury hotels abroad: Release the hostages, and put down your weapons — or Gaza will be destroyed and you will be obliterated,” he wrote. Israel’s military has readied its troops in Gaza City on the ground in an effort to take over the north of the territory and root out Hamas militants hiding there. For weeks, it has been striking the outskirts of the city, levelling parts of northern Gaza, and over the past few days striking one Gaza high-rise each day following evacuation orders. The military is seeking to push out the city’s one million residents but, so far, the army estimates only 10 per cent, or 100,000 people, have left. Trump said Israel and Hamas may sign a ceasefire deal “very soon” after raising a new proposal via an Israeli intermediary with a long history of negotiating with Hamas, in a renewed push to reach a deal to end the war.
