I had to attempt to export this video file – no joke – 30 times because a corrupted asset kept crashing my editing software. It took four days to export it fully. So this better be worth it. I had a very bad cold when I recorded this footage so I’m a bit low energy but hopefully you manage to muster more excitement than I did for Japan’s shortest independent railway wooo wooooooo wooooooooo. This strange little railway, hidden under Narita International Airport, was created due to a bizarre mix of red tape, privatisation and an extremely violent battle between local residents and Japanese police. Like legit people died. The 2.2km Shibayama Railway is a unique little quirk of Tokyo’s transport system… but why is it here? What’s its purpose?
