Judge John Bates, a long-serving federal district court judge in Washington, DC, ruled that Trump's executive order punishing the law firm Jenner & Block was not only unconstitutional, but that Trump's actions were "doubly violative of the Constitution." Notably, Bates, appointed to the federal bench by President George W. Bush, also delivered a pointed message to the law firms that decide to bend a knee to Trump instead of fighting his unconstitutional conduct.
