Join me as I fly Etihad’s flagship A350-1000 in Business Class from Abu Dhabi to Tokyo — a flight that had so much potential, but also a lot of frustration along the way. Onboard, the experience itself was excellent. The seat is modern and comfortable, and the food and service were fantastic. Etihad’s dine-on-demand feature was a highlight — since I wanted to sleep right away, being able to eat on my own schedule made a huge difference on this overnight sector. But the delays were hard to ignore. Boarding was pushed back because of the late arrival of the aircraft, and despite the plane being at the gate, no clear updates or timeline were given. Once onboard, we sat for more than two hours before departure, with only minimal updates from the cockpit. For a late-night departure when most passengers had already been traveling all day from Europe, it was especially frustrating. So, does Etihad’s incredible onboard product outweigh the poor handling of delays?
