I think most people have some kind of 'bucket list'. Mine is a bit strange. It doesn't include places like Niagara Falls or The Great Wall of China. Instead, it includes places like the destination for this adventure.. 50 Cent's hood - Jamaica Queens! As I was spending some time in New York, I realised it was now or never to check out this notorious area of the borough of Queens. Curtis Jackson aka 50 cent burst through to incredible mainstream success in 2003 with his debut album 'Get Rich or Die Tryin'. I was obsessed with the album. I had never been exposed to much hip hop until that point, but I was captivated by the tales told on the album. From that point on, I always wanted to visit the hood that 50 rapped about in his songs, Southside Jamaica Queens. I wanted to see where he grew up, where he hustled the streets in the dangerous life that preceded his rapid rise to fame and wealth. This was my chance. Along the way, I visited an infamous 'hole' where people live next to rubbish dumps in RV's and in Jamaica I aptly sampled some of the tastiest Jamaican food that has ever passed my lips. #50cent #jamaicaqueens #newyork #usa #hiphop
