About

I teach people how to get started with bookbinding and advance their technical skills. Bookbinding is best taught in person, but everyone doesn’t have that opportunity. My videos are meant to supplement in person training. But if this isn’t an option, I hope they are good enough that they will help you develop skills on your own. The binding of the codex form of the book has been developed over the last two millennia. There have been many different kinds of binding structures developed in this time. My approach is based on traditional techniques. But this does not make my approach inflexible or limiting of creativity. It provides the foundation for making books that are structurally sound, extremely practical, and can last hundreds of years.

Video Description

Starch #paste is one of the main types of adhesives used by bookbinders. In this video I'll demonstrate making paste on the stove with a double boiler and a hi tech version made with a Thermomix. Blog post on bookbinding adhesives https://dasbookbinding.com/2019/02/25/bookbinding-adhesive-basics/ These videos are only possible thanks to the support of Patreons, and if you are able, your support would be greatly appreciated. https://www.patreon.com/DASBookbinding I understand not everyone wants to use Patreon.
