The base Mercedes-Benz S 500 4MATIC is equipped with an updated 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine combined with 48-volt mild hybrid technology with an integrated starter-generator, which adds 23 hp. The total power output of the powertrain in standard mode is 449 hp, with a torque of 600 Nm. The integrated starter generator supports the Overboost function: when the accelerator pedal is pressed sharply, it briefly increases the torque from 600 to 640 Nm. This ensures more confident and faster overtaking. Acceleration from 0–100 km/h takes 4.5 seconds, and the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. The top-of-the-range gasoline variant, the S 580 4MATIC, is equipped with a completely new 4.0-liter V8 engine, which features a flat crankshaft for the first time in the history of the S-Class. The Mercedes-Benz S 580e 4MATIC plug-in hybrid version is based on the same updated 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine combined with a 163 hp electric motor. The total system output is 585 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque. The electric motor is integrated into the 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission and functions as a full-fledged traction motor. It provides a range of approximately 100 km on electric power alone, as well as instant torque delivery during acceleration. The maximum speed in electric mode reaches 140 km/h. The S 580e has the highest horsepower output, but also the greatest weight — the battery adds about 300 kg. As a result, it takes 4.4 seconds to reach 100 km/h — half a second slower than the gasoline-powered S 580 — while the top speed remains the same at 250 km/h. The 28 kWh lithium-ion battery supports fast DC charging at up to 60 kW, allowing it to recharge from 10 to 80% in about 20 minutes.
