She had been beaten and shot three times in a struggle. The LAPD initially considered the case a botched burglary and was unable to identify a suspect, despite Rasmussen's father believing that LAPD officer Stephanie Lazarus, who had a relationship with Ruetten, was a prime suspect. Detectives re-examined the cold case files in 2009 and were eventually led to Lazarus, who was by then a detective herself. A DNA sample from a cup she had thrown away was matched to a bite mark found on Rasmussen's body that had remained in the evidence files. Lazarus was convicted in 2012 and is serving a sentence of 27 years to life for first-degree homicide. Some police files suggest that evidence implicating Lazarus earlier in the investigation may have been removed, sparking controversy about the initial investigation. ⏱️ VIDEO CHAPTERS: 00:00 Stephanie Lazarus Interrogation Intro 02:59 Question 1: Were you guys just friends, or... 12:12 Question 2: Have you ever met her? 24:05 Question 3: How did you hear about her death? 35:29 Question 4: Knock it off... 49:29 Question 5: That's sounding familiar... 58:46 Question 6: Was he acting squirly? 1:09:25 Question 7: Hey, pick, or something... 1:19:25 Question 8: You and her had a problem? 1:29:14 Question 9: Oh no!
