Mining In Ghana: FGR/Blue Gold alleges illegal takeover of Bogoso Mine by Heath Goldfields

Mining firm FGR/Blue Gold has accused the Ghanaian government — specifically the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Minerals Commission — of unlawfully handing over the Bogoso-Prestea mine to Heath Goldfields despite ongoing legal challenges. According to Yiadom Boakye Amponsah, Acting Managing Director of FGR/Blue Gold, the company’s mining lease was revoked in September 2024. Still, under Section 27 of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703), their rights (including the use of their equipment, concession, and buildings) should have remained valid until 30 days after the resolution of any disputes. The firm asserts it has both the technical and financial capacity to resume operations. It has secured funding (including an additional USD 80 million) and says it is willing to withdraw its legal claim if the government restores its lease.
