My encounters with ghosts, ghouls, spirits and voices from the other world: Sanjoy Roy, Managing Director, Teamwork Arts, talks about the many supernatural encounters in his life to Karan Thapar for The Wire. .......................................... Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever seen a spirit? Do voices speak to you from the other world? If you were to ask me that question my answer would be an emphatic and resounding no. But that’s not the case with my guest. He’s just written a book, published by HarperCollins, about his many and varied experiences encountering ghosts, spirits, ghouls and other sorts of apparitions. It’s called ‘There’s a Ghost in my Room: Living with the Supernatural’ and the author is the Managing Director of Teamwork Arts, Sanjoy Roy, who is my guest for this interview. Sanjoy Roy talks about several of the strange and inexplicable experiences he’s had. For instance, whilst staying with the Indian Ambassador in Switzerland, in an annexe attached to the main house in Berne, he says: “I was in the midst of a dream, mostly about Chinese food, when I woke up with a start, sensing that someone was in the room. A sprightly gent with an immaculately combed goatee in brown tinged with white, sporting khaki-coloured trousers and a twill jacket, doffed his Swiss peak cap, complete with a feather, leaned forward and said a very terse ‘hello’.” But when Sanjoy Roy switched on the lights this strange Swiss gentleman disappeared. Sanjoy Roy also speaks about the time he was rafting in Rishikesh and was possessed by a spirit. It lasted for two weeks and then it suddenly ended. He talks about what possession felt like. Sanjoy Roy also recounts the experience of his son Avik who, when he was two years old, began seeing an elderly female ghost and there would be streaks of blood on Avik’s pillow and white bedsheet. Such episodes continued for three months. Sanjoy Roy often receives messages delivered by voices from the other world. Often these messages are for other people. He says he’s very reluctant to pass them on but he’s usually persuaded by his wife, Puneeta, to do so. I will stop there. This is a very different interview to any other that I have done. I have never spoken to anyone about their seeing ghosts and hearing voices from the other world.
