I've been a NICU nurse at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for 23 years, and I thought I'd seen every possible variation of premature infant development and consciousness. This is the most unexplained case I've ever encountered as a neonatal nurse. Elowen was born at just 24 weeks gestation, weighing only 1 pound 7 ounces, with severe brain injuries from a car accident that caused her premature birth.
