Video Description
On March 7th, 2018, Stockton Firefighters responded to a working structure fire at an Auto Shop on North El Dorado. Being in the middle of the day, in the middle of the week, and close to downtown- several Fire Department Staff self-dispatched to the call. Chief 5 arrived first on scene- reporting heavy fire from two bays of the garage and striking a 2nd Alarm. Engine 2, Truck 2, Engine 6 and about a dozen other (on and off duty) firefighters were engaged in an elevator operations class at the new County Court House when the Box was toned out. These 'other' firefighters, combined with self-dispatched Staff, equated to an unusual number of uniformed personnel on scene able to assist with non-hazardous operations. After hitting the fire with several 2 1/2 inch attack lines, and a Deck Gun Master Stream; the fire transitioned from Defensive to Offensive in order to save any of the offices and several expensive cars that the garage was storing. Two Truck Crews went to the roof to conduct safe but aggressive Vertical Ventilation, and successfully exited after cutting several holes. The fire would be extinguished with 15 minutes of the initial 911 call. Other than the injuries that occured on scene previous to firefighters arrival, there were no other incidents or issues. Many firefighters were needed to extinguish this fire; many of those also had to 'clear' from this fire to respond to another Commercial Structure Fire up north.
