New Waymo safety data may surprise you 👀🚙 #trendingshorts #ai #automation #future #technology
Description
A peer-reviewed study published last month found Waymo's driverless vehicles achieved an 85% reduction in suspected serious injuries compared to human drivers across 56.7 million miles—equivalent to over 100 moon trips. The research, spanning Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Austin, showed dramatic crash reductions: 96% fewer intersection collisions, 92% fewer pedestrian injuries, and 82% fewer cyclist and motorcyclist injuries. Only two serious injury crashes occurred, both secondary incidents. While Waymo vehicles still struggle with construction zones and occasionally block emergency vehicles, the study represents the first statistically significant evidence that autonomous vehicles can substantially improve road safety. Waymo now holds 22% of San Francisco's rideshare market.
