Set in the near future, it follows Hugh and his inseparable android companion, Diana, as they struggle to survive inside a frozen lunar research station. 📝 SUMMARY Pragmata impresses with its innovative combat and deep progression system, underpinned by the striking visuals of the RE Engine. The narrative, centered on the evolving bond between Hugh and Diana, offers a compelling sci-fi mystery set within a detailed, semi-open world. 🚀 A BOLD SCI-FI RISK THAT PAYS OFF After spending more than two hours with the new demo, we came away very impressed with Capcom’s new IP. Pragmata takes risks both narratively and in its gameplay design, and while there’s still more to learn about how everything comes together, it’s clear that its sci-fi setting is incredibly appealing. The relationship between Hugh and Diana feels well written, and the RE Engine once again demonstrates its ability to deliver strong performance across all platforms. 🧩 TACTICAL SYNERGY WITH DIANA One of the most surprising aspects of Pragmata is its innovative combat system, which blends classic third-person shooting with a puzzle-like layer driven by Diana. The concept may sound simple at first. We use Diana to break enemy defenses, enhance our attacks, and trigger different abilities, all while continuing to shoot; but in practice, it offers far more depth than expected. This synergy feels reminiscent of the dual-action mechanics in Astral Chain or the pod-assisted combat of NieR: Automata, requiring a similar level of multitasking. This became especially clear during a massive boss encounter that truly tested the system’s complexity. It highlighted how demanding Pragmata can be, requiring both precise aiming and strategic thinking to succeed. ⚙️ BUILDING YOUR ARSENAL Another standout feature is the progression system. The game includes a base of operations where we can upgrade different character stats, as well as improve our weapons. We’ll always have access to four weapon types, allowing us to choose (either at the base or when we find them in the field) which ones best suit our playstyle depending on the available slots. The same applies to hacking upgrades, as Diana can equip different tools such as shields or attack boosts. These choices play a key role in shaping how we approach each combat scenario. 🛰️ A SCI-FI BOND AMIDST CATASTROPHE The setting of Pragmata is one of its most intriguing elements. So far, Capcom has only offered glimpses of the narrative, giving us a brief look at the unusual relationship between Hugh and Diana, all within a sci-fi world that slowly reveals the aftermath of a major catastrophe. There’s still much to uncover, but their relationship already feels layered with meaning. It touches on themes of family (father-daughter), morality (human vs. robot), and learning (adult-child). It evokes the protector-ward dynamic of God of War’s Kratos and Atreus, or the atmospheric bond found in Death Stranding. This contrast allows the story to unfold gradually, with subtle references to Earth and a futuristic way of life that ultimately led humanity to make critical mistakes in pursuit of technological progress. 🎮 RE ENGINE'S BRILLIANCE ON PS5 PRO Visually, Pragmata stands out thanks to Capcom’s RE Engine, which once again proves to be highly capable, delivering the high-quality presentation we've come to expect from recent Resident Evil titles. The demo ran smoothly on PS5 Pro, and the overall presentation is complemented by strong audio design, including multi-language voice acting and a soundtrack that fits the tone of the game very well. 🔍 ENVIRONMENTAL STORYTELLING AND SEMI-OPEN EXPLORATION Pragmata features a semi-open structure, allowing us to move through large areas where we can progress the main story while also discovering secrets and environmental details. Exploration rewards curiosity, offering a variety of weapons and upgrade materials.
