These three words summarise most art principles. Whether you are working on lines, forms, values - the key is working big to small. Some artists can go straight to the details - that's because they are able to figure out the big forms and big value ideas in their heads first. For us mere mortals, it's best to actually draw big to small as I show in this video. Here I do this with a portrait, but this applies to figures, landscapes and everything else.
