Video Description
"We could've gone for a sort of heavy metal approach, or something more obvious, but this seemed like a sort of new direction for us." - Roger Taylor. John Deacon, Brian May, Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor sit down for a brief chat with Sue Cook about Hot Space, their latest studio album. Hot Space marks something of a sonic departure from their 70s - predominantly rock - output, and sees Queen incorporating elements of disco, dance and funk into their mix, and even adding a horn section and a drum machine on some songs. What inspired this change of direction? Will Queen's legendary stage show change to reflect their new sound? Clip taken from Nationwide, originally broadcast on BBC One, 28 May, 1982. You have now entered the BBC Archive, a time machine that will transport you back to the golden age of TV to educate, entertain and enlighten you with classic clips from the BBC vaults.
