8.8 Rear End Rebuild – Part 1 | Differential Teardown & Housing Restoration In this video, Ben and I pull the Ford 8.8 rear end out from under the Mustang and tear it completely down to begin the rebuild process. This is Part 1 of our 8.8 rear end rebuild series, where the focus is on disassembly, cleaning, rust removal, and housing restoration. Once the rear end is out, we move it to the driveway and go to work removing years of grime and rust. After cleaning, we coat the housing with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator Plus to seal everything up and prep it for paint — an essential step if you want your restoration to last. Following that technique, we used a blackening product from Amazon to give our axle bushing housings a clean, durable finish. This worked really well.
