After staying in Rome in more than 20 locations, This is by far the best area to stay when visiting Rome. Rome is a large city with a very large historical center. Typically just staying in the historcal center works best for most Italian cities but this is not true for Rome. It is best to stay in area that most things are accessible by walking. I have found the are of Torre Argentina is the best place to base your stay. Busses come by the square every few minutes and so many things are a short walk away. The Pantheon is just 300 meters away, Campo Dei Fiori is 350 meters away, The Jewish Ghetto is just 200 meters away, Piazza Navona is less than 500 meters away, Trevi Fountain is under 650 meters away and best of all Trastevere is just a short walk away.
