Built on a swamp infested by cobras, a former cemetery and 18th century battlefield, it was plagued by problems from the start, which is why it took so long to complete. Was it worth the wait? Some may say no but most would agree it’s quite impressive. The project was plagued with issues and errors, both man made and spiritual, political and geological, but it was finally opened on 28th September 2006, replacing Don Mueang as Bangkok’s main international aviation hub, but 6 months later the old airport was on hand to take some of the strain.
