Square's early history before Final Fantasy made them a household name is often overlooked and forgotten. In this video I take a look at the games and struggles Square went through before finally finding their foothold in the video game industry. 0:00 - Introduction 1:36 - Part 1: Birth of Square 7:15 - Part 2 - Famicom Focused 16:16 - Part 3 - The Final Fantasy 21:48 - Credits Gameplay Credits: World of Longplays - http://www.longplays.org - Yushira, Valis77, kireev20000, subcogitate Koto Channel 3DCG Anime Highretrogamelord やまだくん - FEMICOM Museum DerSchmu Nenriki86 Punkinnonstop The MSX Channel Alorify Prince Watercress LordCloudStrife Free Emulator Retro Tony Shirrako Chronos Zinfogel Omegabalmung Gaming Alexandria LordKarnov42 ShiryuGL Darkleon Zachary Glenn FakeGamerGirl U4iA DeltaShinyZeta IggayDaDawg Special Thanks: Azita (KittyMecha) Richard "Nole" Ludwig Matt Baros Introduction Snippet: In the late 80’s, Square, also known as Square Soft outside of Japan, created a series that would forever change the video game market and help popularize RPGs around the world. This series would of course be called Final Fantasy. These games would take players on epic adventures that blended unique stories, compelling battle systems, intriguing characters, and expansive exploration. Many people nowadays think Square’s history begins with the Final Fantasy series, however the company had been around for nearly half a decade before the first game ever saw the light of day. It’s safe to say that the Square we know today, now named Square Enix, has found great success in the gaming industry and risen to become one of the largest video game publishers ever. This was not always the case though as the Japanese company’s earlier days were much more tumultuous before they finally found their golden goose, Final Fantasy. This is the story of a business that found success in the video game market, then nearly lost it, before an RPG no one had ever heard of would save them from bankruptcy. This is Square’s history before Final Fantasy.
