While a lot of the criticism aimed at the show is shallow or outright dishonest, I break down why those takes miss the mark, and why the show still ultimately fails as meaningful autism representation. This isn’t a defense of the series, but a call for more honest, informed conversations about neurodiversity & disability representation in media that goes deeper than Twitter hot takes. Looking at the entire 7 seasons of the series, as well as South Korean original series Good Doctor, we discuss the famous "I Am A Surgeon" scene/meme & why it's probably not great to make fun of autistic meltdowns, we talk about Freddie Highmore's performance & also some of the more progressive neurodivergent casting decisions. I break down why the fans seem to hate Charlie so much & what parts of Shaun I see in myself.
