Two twin brothers, Yuri and Petro, were born and raised in the small mountain village of Dubove in Transcarpathia, Ukraine. Long ago, their house burned to the ground, leaving only the black ashes of memories. Since then, their lives have become an endless struggle for survival. Yuri is silent and reserved, the one who always takes on more than he can handle. Petro is the weaker one, after an accident he became disabled and is forced to rely on his brother and a meager pension. Together they live in an old hut that is leaning over time, doing hard physical labor: mowing the lawn, picking mushrooms, making bean sticks for pennies. Their life is an endless cycle of work, cold, and loneliness. But despite the fatigue and difficulties, they stick together. On long winter evenings, when the wind howls outside the window, the brothers remember their childhood, dream of things that will never come true, and joke to prevent despair from destroying the last thing they have - brotherly love. This is a story about the strength of spirit, brotherly devotion and the fate of people who find themselves alone with mountains, old age and the inevitability of time.
